About
Coiste na nIarchimí is the national organisation in Ireland representing the approximately 24,000 Republican ex-prisoners -who were imprisoned in various locations throughout the recent conflict -and their families.
Our primary aim is to achieve equality of citizenship for all of our constituency, in all aspects of their lives, and also to proactively promote peace and reconciliation between all citizens to ensure lasting peace.
Heritage
Coiste has an online oral history archive that was developed through funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The stories are based around craft items made in the various prisons over many decades. The interviews are with some of those who made the crafts and family members and friends who received them giving us approximately thirty stories of interwoven experiences relating to the conflict, imprisonment and separation. The website also features photographs of the crafts featured in the stories.
The interviews can be found on the website: ceardaiocht.ie
Coiste also holds a collection of books from the libraries in the republican wings in the H Blocks as well as many publications from republican prisoners from various prisons.
