Barricade Bulletin Special Edition

(Museum of Free Derry)

Barricade Bulletin No2, 14 August 1969. The Barricade Bulletin was a radical community newsletter printed and distributed during the period of Free Derry. This Bulletin titled ‘British Troops in Derry’ opens claiming that the deployment of armed troops is a great defeat for the Unionist government, stating that this military intervention highlights their loss of control and inability to govern, but admits, ‘We do not yet know if this is a victory for us’. As the Bulletin expands on the introduction of the soldiers in response to escalating tension, the writer become increasingly weary of the 300 soldiers who had just been deployed to the streets of Derry, in the end stressing ‘WE DEFEND OUR AREA AGAINST ANYONE’.
